Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England)
This qualification is designed for anyone working with, or looking to work with, children and young people in a residential care setting. It helps learners build the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to support children’s development, wellbeing and safety in a residential environment.
The course covers a wide range of areas, including child development, safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, communication, behaviour support and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. It also explores the legal and regulatory responsibilities that apply within residential childcare in England.
The diploma is suitable for staff already working in the sector who want to progress into roles such as residential childcare worker, support worker, senior support worker or team leader. It is equally appropriate for those who are not yet employed in residential care but wish to enter the sector and gain the qualification required under the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations.
Learners complete the qualification through a mix of knowledge-based study and workplace practice. Those already employed in a residential setting can use their current role to gather evidence, while those not yet in work can complete the knowledge elements and then demonstrate competence once they secure a suitable placement.
